Nevada softball walks off past Rams

The University of Nevada softball team used a pair of walk-off wins to subdue Colorado State last weekend at Hixson Park in Reno.

Megan Fincher blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the 12th inning on Sunday to give the Wolf Pack a 5-4 win. On Saturday, Karley Hopkins roped a two-out single to score Fincher as Nevada pulled out a 4-3 victory.

On Friday, the Rams opened the three-game Mountain West series with a 10-0 win in five innings.

Fincher, meanwhile, has hit 10 homers on the season tying her for the conference lead. Nevada improves to 25-19 overall and 4-5 in the Mountain West. Colorado State falls to 18-19, 4-2.

Nevada trailed 3-0 in the fifth inning on Sunday, but tallied four runs to take the lead.

Caylin Campbell ripped a triple to right with two runners on to get the first two Nevada runs. Hopkins tied the game with an RBI ground out to score Campbell. Megan Sweet hit her sixth home run of the year to give the Pack a 4-3 lead.

Megan Dortch went the distance in the circle as she struck out 12 and allowed two earned runs. She improves to 9-9 with a 3.79 ERA.

Sweet, Jasmine Jenkins and former Fallon star Sara Parsons each had two hits. Parsons also doubled.

On Saturday, Hopkins came up with runners on first and second in the bottom of the eighth, as Fincher reached on an error and Chelsea Barilli laid down a bunt single to third, all with two outs. A single up the middle off reliever Kacie McCarthy scored Fincher, and gave Nevada the win.

Hopkins was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, spearheading the Pack offense from the lead-off spot. She hit her second home run of the season in the fifth, which tied the game at 2.

Lauren Lastrapes also had two hits, driving in a run with a single in the fourth. Parsons went 1-for-3 with a double.

On Friday, the Pack committed three errors and allowed six unearned runs in the blowout loss.

The Wolf Pack hit the road for a three-game series at New Mexico on Friday. Nevada concludes the regular season with a home series against UNLV from April 26-28 at Hixson Park and at Boise State from May 9-11.

Notes: Sunday’s game was the longest in Hixson Park history. … Parsons leads the club with 37 RBIs, is fifth in batting average (.333), tied for second in doubles (13) and home runs (six). … Jenkins leads the team in average (365), Erin Jones leads in doubles (16) and is tied for second in homers (six).
