NIAA cancels Tuesday's tennis, soccer matches

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association canceled all of Tuesday’s prep games in areas affected by the smoke from California wildfires.

According to Donnie Nelson, NIAA assistant director, the air-quality index in numerous Nevada and California counties is too high.

He also announced all Division I and I-A tennis matches, which are nonleague contests, are canceled with no make-up date scheduled.

Fallon’s girls tennis team was scheduled to host Reno, and was also placed under the no-play stipulation, Nelson said.

DI girls soccer matches, though, will be rescheduled as those games count toward league standings for the postseason.

As for Wednesday’s action, the NIAA will make a determination between now and tomorrow whether to cancel those contests.

Most of the smoke is coming from the Rim Fire in and near Yosemite National Park. According to numerous reports, the fire is 70 percent contained.
