Missing Fallon man found dead

A missing Fallon man was found dead Wednesday by the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, according to a press release from Sheriff Ben Trotter.

Michael Gutierrez, 45, who was reported missing on Sept. 24 was located in a secluded area by the CCSO on Wednesday morning. He was dead and had traveled on foot approximately 3 miles from his vehicle, which was located about 15 miles northeast of Fallon.

An on-going community effort had been underway since the date of the report. The cause of Gutierrez’s death has not been released.

He last spoke to his family on Sept. 19, according to a previous release by the CCSO.

Trotter previously said Gutierrez did not report to work nine days ago and his family reported him as missing; the next day an extensive air and ground search was initiated.

On Thursday afternoon, Gutierrez’s 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser was located in the desert about 15 miles northeast of town

Assisting with the search were the CCSO, the Churchill County Search and Rescue (SAR), Special Deputy Charles Gomes (aircraft), Sheriff’s Office Captain Mark Joseph, Fallon/Churchill Fire Chief Fred Rogne, Jerry Frey (helicopter), George Pomeroy, Willis Kroepelin, Joe Ranbo, Bill Lawry, Frank Gomes as well as numerous other Sheriff’s Office Deputies.
