Mr. D. R. Sessions was appointed Principal of the State University at Elko and is instructed to report to the Board on the course of study. Mr. Sessions will go to Elko and start the University as soon as possible. He graduated from Princeton College, New Jersey, in 1870, excelling in English Literature and the Modern Languages. (The State University moved from Elko to Reno, Nevada in 1885).

Tybo in Nye county is asking for temporary assistance for those in distress. Tybo is in ashes and many people are homeless and destitute.

Three weeks before Major Charles L. Kelly died in Vietnam, his 12-year old daughter, wrote this poem:

In Vietnam a cold war rages,

Soldiers are found with very small wages.

Men fight, women cry--and day and night more people die…

I don’t know why, I never will

Know why men have to die in the battlefield.

Geraldine Ferraro will be acclaimed the Democratic vice presidential candidate, with Walter Mondale as President. This will make history for her country and her party as the first woman to run for Vice President.
