3 lost snowboarders found in the cold

Staff reports

Three teenage snowboarders from the Santa Cruz area were found safe, cold and exhausted Friday night after they ventured out of bounds from Sierra-at-Tahoe’s East About run, the El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies reported.

A county search-and-rescue team of eight volunteers assisted 10 Sierra ski patrollers to find the teens. The ski patrol was called at 5 p.m. The girls were found at 7:15 p.m. on the ridge line near Huckleberry Flat, west of Audrain Lake.

The teens were released to a guardian. They have not yet been issued a citation for going out of bounds, but the incident is under investigation.
