140 years ago

There is a Chinese garden south of town which is worth a visit. There is an old terrapin of a Chinese man, bearded and rawboned, who they say is a very famous and skillful gardener. Small vegetables and the like are planted in profusion, lavish manuring and irrigated. His products are produced very, very early in abundance.

130 years ago

The Methodist revival now in progress in this city has resulted very much to the discomfiture of Satan. The workers have moved fearlessly upon the cohorts of unrighteousness and the darkness of sin has been illumined by the true gospel ray.

100 years ago

The Douglas County Commissioners are busy working on the road to Lake Tahoe. There is one section in town that needs immediate attention — that between the Muldoon farm and the Quill home. It is not only rocky, but extremely narrow. The auto is to blame and with the coming of the tourist.

70 years ago

Gov. E. P. Carville announced yesterday the Forest and Range Fire Fighter Service is being organized in the state of Nevada. One hundred and ninety-nine forest and range fires were reported in Nevada in 1942. Seventy-five percent are man-caused.

50 years ago

The April meeting of the Mark Twain Garden Club was highlighted by “Crazy Hat Day” at the home of Mrs. Richard Perry.

20 years ago

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced it is sampling mercury contamination in and around the Carson River.
