Chief petty officers receive golden anchors

Ten chief petty officers recently received their golden anchors during a pinning ceremony.

The ceremony held in Hangar 1 is a tradition dating back to 1893 when the Navy first instituted the rank of chief petty officer. The ceremony signifies a new position of leadership and responsibility for the sailor.

As the new chiefs lined up in front of a crowd of family, friends and co-workers, Rear Adm. Andrew Lewis, commander, Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center and Capt. Leif Steinbaugh, commanding officer, Naval Air Station Fallon offered words of wisdom to the new chiefs as they prepare to embark on their next phase of Military service.
