Christmas tree at Empire. The richest tree provided for the children by Santa Claus, in our neighborhood, was at Empire. Four hundred dollars and over, divided among about 40 children, is a handsome sum. The liberal-spirited folk of Empire love to see children happy.

130 years ago

The Appeal acknowledges a gallon of Connecticut cider from Muller, Schmitt and Co.; a keg of beer from Taylor; half a dozen bottles of California hock from Fischer and Decker; two turkeys from Sweeney; four mince pies from Boston Bakery; and some wine from George Bryson. That’s what makes the paper so late this morning.

100 years ago

This evening at the Grand will present “The Alibi,” a sensational western drama when the clever artifice of a young woman narrowly averts a miscarriage of justice. Also, “His Greatest Victory.” No opportunities for strong dramatic action have been overlooked in the staging of this exciting play of war and sacrifice.

An excellent Christmas program featuring a tree and the giving of gifts will be held tonight at the civic auditorium under the auspices of the American Legion. The program has been arranged by Joel Snyder.

By Santa’s Helper. It’s been a tough season. The demand for Cabbage Patch Kids, Garfields, Barbies and G.I. Joes has been staggering. With the help of a recovering economy, most little boys and girls are getting what they want this Christmas.
