Barbara Jones: Faith inspired key moments in nation’s history
October 12, 2013
Faith and prayer are the foundation for great works of the Lord.
What god you have faith in and pray to is extremely important. Included will be scripture references from the Holy Bible as backup. "By faith Noah … By faith Abraham … By faith Joseph … By faith Moses … And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of … also of David and Samuel and the prophets; who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection." (Hebrews Chapter 11)
By faith Benjamin Franklin called the first Congress to prayer when it was in much confusion. Out of the prayer came the Constitution. By faith Abraham Lincoln, after a night travailing in prayer, followed the scripture he got in the morning to save the union from division.
"Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation and every city or house divided against itself will not stand." (Matthew 12:25) Hence the famous statement, "United we stand, divided we fall." By faith Christopher Columbus sailed here, being led by Jesus Christ according to his journal.
By faith and prayer the believers in Jesus did and are still doing great works "looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, Who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:2)
Jesus said, "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do." (John 14:13) Therefore, we are to pray in the name of Jesus.
