Carson City budget open houses this week; supervisors to meet Thursday

A public open house on Carson City's 2018 fiscal year budget is being held Monday at the Carson City Community Center.

An overview and question-and-answer session with city staff will take place in the Sierra Room and staff from the city's departments such as Public Works will be on hand in the center's lobby to answer questions and take comments.

Two sessions will be held, first at noon to 1:30 p.m. and a second one from 5:30-7 p.m.

On Thursday, the Board of Supervisors meet to consider several ordinances to amend municipal code.

The board will hear on first reading an ordinance to make changes to the liquor code which would allow the review of liquor licenses by a hearings officer and let businesses with an encroachment permit sell liquor in the public right of way adjacent to the business.

On second reading, the supervisors will hear ordinances to create a new zone called General Industrial Airport (GIA) and to rezone some property near the airport to GIA and General Industrial, and an ordinance to clarify vicious and dangerous dogs.

The board will receive presentations on the city's five-year information technology plan from Eric Von Schimmelmann, chief information officer, and on the 2017 legislative session from the Nevada League of Cities.

The board will vote to approve the 2016/17 annual report and 2017/18 work plan from the Cultural Commission.

The supervisors will decide whether to spend $26,000 to remove and replace the historic tour Blue Line, which is crumbling, and provide a matching grant for a smart phone application for the tour.

Another $10,000 for Carson City Visitors Bureau Reimagine Space public art program will be voted on.

The board will also interview three applicants for a spot on the Airport Authority.
