Chamber leadership class raising funds for seniors’ media room
July 14, 2012
Karin Mracek, communications manager of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and graduate of the 2011 Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute, is the lucky winner of four tickets to a San Francisco Giants game. She was “honored to make a donation to help the Leadership Class of 2012 raise funds to refurbish the Media Room at the Carson City Senior Center and is thrilled to have won tickets to see the Giants play.”
Every year, the Chamber of Commerce Leadership class reaches out to the community with a special project. This year’s class is raising funds to modernize and refurbish the Senior Center’s Media Room. Between updating the electronics, adding comfortable furnishings and giving some love and care to the room for comfort, they are looking to create a home away from home for local seniors.
To date, the fundraising effort has generated over half of the budgeted goal. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so by mailing a check or visiting the Chamber of Commerce at 1900 S. Carson St., Suite 200. The chamber can also take Visa or MasterCard contributions over the phone at 882-1565. Please note your contribution is for the Leadership Class Project.
The Carson City Leadership Institute, operated by the Carson City Area Chamber of Commerce, graduated its first class in 1989 and the program has been a success ever since. Many alumni have gone on to public office or taken jobs that keep them in the public eye.
The program is designed to provide a detailed understanding of the inner workings of the various public and private elements that make Carson City unique. The sessions are conducted by experienced community and state leaders and are held at a variety of locations designed to expose participants to the many facilities and resources available in the Carson City area. Leadership is 80 hours of learning, camaraderie and fun. To date, more than 325 people have graduated from the program.
