Downtown Carson City gas costs mirror West Coast’s
November 24, 2013
Downtown prices for gasoline in Carson City dovetailed in range closely with recent West Coast prices put out by GasBuddy.com, occasionally rivaling lower nationwide costs.
The Arco am/pm station's price for regular was $3.259 a gallon at the station at William and Carson streets. The Chevron station kitty-corner from it on the northwest corner of William and Carson was advertising regular at $3.479 per gallon. At Bob's Shell, 705 N. Carson St., the price for regular was $3.459 a gallon.
Prices cited by GasBuddy.com for Western states averaged $3.498 a gallon at midweek, making the region's prices the highest of eight nationwide. The nationwide average was $3.219 on Wednesday, 28 cents a gallon lower than the overall West Coast average, according to the website.
Oregon had the lowest cost in the region, averaging $3.263, and Hawaii was highest at $3.959.
Last month, the West Coast average was $3.676 a gallon, and among the region's states Oregon recorded the largest decrease this month compared with October, and Nevada registered the smallest decrease from October to November.
Oregon dropped 23 cents by Wednesday from the Oct. 20 level of $3.488. Nevada dropped just 12 cents from the $3.422 per gallon the Silver State had recorded Oct. 20.
The median average for the Western region at midweek was $3.483, which accounted for the West being the highest in that category nationally. The nation's median price was 28 cents lower.
At $3.259 per gallon, the median average in the Silver State ranked lowest on the West Coast but still was the 21st highest across the nation, according to GasBuddy.com. Only two states in the Western region had stations reporting prices under $3 per gallon during the 36 hours preceding GasBuddy's midweek rankings. They were Oregon and Washington.
Meanwhile, prices recorded at a dollar more were still being seen at some stations everywhere, according to the website.
"Every state has at least one station with a price over $4," GasBuddy reported.
