Sickness: Scarlet fever and diphtheria are raging in Carson… A temporary closing of the public schools might have a good effect of checking the spread of the disease in a measure. It behooves every family who has little ones to care for to disinfect the house. Carbolic acid diluted with water sprinkled about the house or allowed to stand in saucers half-filled with sawdust, fumes of burning tar and bags of camphor hung about the necks of persons liable to contagion are excellent to ward off the disease.

All sorts: The Appeal acknowledges receipt of an invitation to a social dance to be given by the Jack Rabbit Club of Virginia City. The steamer Tallac (at Lake Tahoe) is in running order. It has been increased in length and its speed is 14 miles per hour.
