Attention is called to an official notice by the city marshal in relation to procuring licenses and dog tags and in respect to cattle and hogs running in the streets. It will be seen that licenses must be procured this week, and that cattle and hogs found running at large will be impounded. We have the most positive assurance that the law will be strictly enforced.

Ordinance No. 67. The Board of Trustees of Carson City do ordain: "… It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or association, to sell or dispose of any dirk, dirk knife, sword, sword cane, billy, slung shot, revolver, pistol, gun or other dangerous or deadly weapon, to any person under the age of 21."

100 years ago

Late Saturday night or early Sunday morning while A. Laurentzen was returning to Silver City, the animal which he was driving became frightened when approaching one of the Virginia and Truckee crossings just east of town and running away upset the buggy and threw Laurentzen violently to the ground. The animal continued his flight and landing in a ditch some distance beyond breaking his neck in the fall. Laurentzen made his way back to town with minor injuries.

Gerald Roberts of Tonopah was elected Saturday president of the Nevada State Press Association, succeeding William V. Wright of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Elected as one of the directors was Bill Dolan, advertising director of the Nevada Appeal.

Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
