Election: On the eve of the election, the Glee Club sang the following song, Mr. Mason singing the air with the full effect of his clear and melodious voice — "Once More for the Old Flag." The chorus (in part):

Hail the coming triumph, Cheer, comrades, cheer!

Our gallant hosts are gathered,

They have come from far and near;

And we rally to the ticket, boys,

130 Years Ago

Gates! R. H. Lindsay had a suspicion the boys of the neighborhood had contemplated a raid on his front gate on Halloween. He arranged his lawn hose with a liberal sprinkler attached so it covered the gate completely. He waited in the front parlor and soon the expected visitors arrived with their screwdrivers and began to work. Mr. L. waited until they were in a bunch of boys and turned on the ice-cold water drenching the urchins (Gazette).

Advertisement: "C. W. Friend, Watchmaker and Optician. Watches and jewelry, also engineering and other scientific engraving done. Eyes examined by the most improved methods and all defects of vision properly corrected. Agency for the Columbia Graphophone, records and supplies."

Halloween party: The children and staff of the Children's Home were entertained with a barn carnival given in the old gymnasium. Mr. and Mrs. Roland van der Smissen and the entire home family appeared in costume. Weird sounds and designs greeted the children as they entered, and the evening was spent visiting booths for fortune telling, fish ponds, target shooting, and bingo. Cider, popcorn and candied apples were served …
