Mumble-the-Peg is a nice little game when played on the Plaza where the grass is luxuriant. It is entertaining to see small boys biting the dust and blowing it from their noses. How much more pleasing to see grown up young men and mature adults with beards sitting around on the ground absorbed in the distraction of said pastime.

Musical cat: At the Holstein ranch, there is a cat that has a great ear for music. Its favorite Sunday school song is “Gates Ajar.” The minute the youngest daughter begins to sing, that cat comes to her, licks her hands and face and gives the evidence of being highly pleased and occasionally introduces a few treble notes to complete the harmony of the upper register …

Pages from the Past by Bill Dolan: In regard to the question from Reno as to whether or not Carson City’s fabulous Hank Monk was a man of fiction or whether he lived or not, Hank Monk was buried 81 years ago in the Lone Mountain Cemetery, and it still is decorated each Decoration Day. He drove a stagecoach for Doc Benton. His chief claim to fame was the historic ride he gave presidential candidate Horace Greeley to Placerville.
