Shuttle to Reno airport begins Monday
November 12, 2014
A shuttle four times daily will connect Carson Valley communities and Carson City with Reno's airport and downtown beginning Monday.
Amador Stage Lines in Sacramento and the Nevada Department of Transportation provided details after Carson City Transportation Manager Patrick Pittenger confirmed the service begins Monday, though city government isn't directly involved. He said he was aware of the service and provided the NDOT contact who could offer more details. Michelle Gardner, NDOT transit manager, explained the new subsidized system.
"If this service is a success," Gardner said, "they can apply for the same amount next year." She was referring to federal funds provided through NDOT to the Amador service so it can get started. She said Amador is receiving $365,907 in federal funds and must provide $143,708 in the program, which is going operate the service for a $24 fare each way for the Gardnerville-Minden to Reno run or back, $16 between Carson City and Reno.
The service is being called Carson Valley Airporter.
Amador, reached in California's capital city by telephone, provided the pickup places and times for the service, which was going to operate each day — weekdays and weekends. The times also are on a carsonvalleyairporter.com website.
Going north, a shuttle leaves the Gardnerville Community Center at 6 a.m., 8 a.m., 11:55 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day and has two pickup stops in Minden, two in Carson City and two in Reno. At Carson Valley Inn in Minden, the pickup times headed north are 6:10 and 8:10 a.m., 12:05 and 4:40 p.m. At the Minden Holiday Inn, they are 6:23 and 8:23 a.m., 12:18 and 4:53 p.m.
