Members of legislative commission named the day before first meeting

Less than 24 hours before their scheduled meeting, lawmakers were named Thursday to sit on the Legislative Commission for the next two years.

The commission handles policy issues and non-fiscal matters on behalf of the Legislature between sessions.

Senate leaders in both parties named Republicans Randolph Townsend of Reno, Sandra Tiffany of Henderson and Mark Amodei of Carson City, while Democrats named Dina Titus, Valerie Wiener and Steven Horsford of Las Vegas.

Assembly leaders appointed Democrats Barbara Buckley and John Oceguera of Las Vegas and Bernie Anderson of Sparks to the commission. Republicans named Sharron Angle of Reno, John Carpenter of Elko and Garn Mabey of Las Vegas.

The commission meets beginning at 7:30 a.m. this morning.
