Nevada Legislature: Minimum wage change bills dead

The Associated Press

Two proposed constitutional changes to Nevada's minimum wage will not go forward.

SJR 6 and SJR 8 would have changed Nevada's constitutionally required minimum wage but both resolutions didn't receive a committee vote by Friday's deadline.

Nevada workers could still see a minimum wage increase through SB193 which also loosens overtime calculations for employers. The Republican-backed proposal increases minimum wage for workers without employer-offered health insurance to $9 an hour.

That proposal passed the Senate on a party-line vote and now moves to the Assembly.

SJR 6 was sponsored by Republican Sen. Joe Hardy and sought to repeal the constitutional minimum wage and tied it to the Consumer Price Index. SJR 8 was sponsored by Democratic Sen. Tick Segerblom and would have raised the wage to $15 an hour.
