Robert (Bob) Gerald Hendrix, age 75, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Northern Nevada Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Bob had been a resident of Fallon, Nevada for more than 70 years. He was born October 13, 1937 in Reno, Nevada, to Thora Gardner-Hendrix. He moved early in his childhood to a ranch in Fallon on Swingle Bench. The family later moved onto the Hendrix Family Ranch on Downs Lane. He lived on the family ranch with his mother and four siblings, Verl, Veloy, Delva and Carol.
Bob attended the Harmon Grammar School and graduated from Churchill County High School. During his high school years he played center on the varsity football team and drove the school bus to earn extra money. After high school he enlisted in the army and spent three years in Fort Lewis, Washington.
Upon completion of his army duties he returned to Fallon and married Beverley Douglass on November 1, 1959. They were later sealed in the St. George, Utah LDS Temple. They settled in Fallon and purchased a small ranch on Norcutt Lane south of Fallon. There, Bob and Bev began ranching and raising children.
Bob found his passion in life riding horses and team roping while on the ranch. He operated a roping arena for many years and he hosted team ropings. Bob rode horses almost every day until his illness no longer allowed him to safely ride.
Bob eventually moved off the ranch and took on a more suburban lifestyle, but always managing to acquire enough land to ride his horses. He operated a successful insurance agency “Hendrix Insurance” in Fallon and Lovelock for more than 25 years.
One of Bob’s most rewarding experiences was serving as an LDS Bishop of the then Fallon 1st and 3rd wards.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beverley; and their three children, Vicki Reid and Clay Hendrix of Fallon, Ken Hendrix of Reno; 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; brother, Verl Hendrix and sister Delva Schank of Fallon; sister, Carol Stewart of Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his mother; father and sister, Veloy McCray.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 450 N. Taylor St., Fallon, Nevada with viewing at 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the Fallon Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Fallon. 423-2255.
