Sep. 3, 1916 - April 7, 2013
Marian Wood, 96, passed away on April 7, 2013 in Carson City, NV. She was born to Charles and Rachel Simonson in Lone Rock, Wisconsin on September 3, 1916. She was the youngest of seven children and the only one who did not speak Norwegian. She graduated from Whitewater Teachers College in 1939, and worked as the head bookkeeper at First Federal Savings & Loan in La Crosse, WI until she married Harold Wood in 1946. After his death in 1973, she continued operating their business, Royal Engraving, another 17 years until she sold it. During her retirement years, she spent countless volunteer hours working with Meals on Wheels, the Lutheran Hospital and Bethany Home, and continued to be very active in her church. She traveled extensively with friends and family and walked several miles a day . . . weather permitting . . . until she was 90. She sold her home in La Crosse in 2011, and moved to an assisted living apartment in Carson City, near her eldest daughter.
She is survived by four daughters, Peggy Twedt (Carter) of Carson City, Sandy Grummon (Bryan) of Gold Beach, Oregon, Mary Sorenson (Ken) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Nancy Wood (Lee Magruder) of Scottsdale, Arizona; two grandchildren, Jessica Prochnow and Kurt Sorenson, both of Albuquerque; and five great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their gratitude to Sierra Place and to Vista Care for the compassion and care they provided Marian during the last two months of her life.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity. She will be cremated and her ashes buried by her husband’s grave in La Crosse.
