Sep. 8, 1932 - April 10, 2013
Dewayne Harris, age 80, returned to his Heavenly Father on April 10, 2013 following complications from surgery. He was a loving husband, father and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dewayne was born in Keyes, Oklahoma on September 8, 1932 and was raised primarily in the area of Grand Junction Colorado, attending schools there and graduating from Fruita Union High School. DeWayne served in the military from 1948-1952, during which time he married Aronda Simco. They were later divorced. Dewayne and family moved to Washington State in 1966 and settled in Dixie. He worked as a Correctional Officer and Sergeant for the Washington State Penitentiary for 22 years. During that time, he also owned and managed a Harley-Davidson motorcycle store in Walla Walla, which he re-opened in Dixie before retirement in 1995. He married Elaine Larsen in 1986. Together they continued Harris Motors, Inc. as a full-time motorcycle store until 1997, when they relocated to Utah and later to Lovelock and Fallon, Nevada.
Dewayne loved riding his Harley, and made many friends who were attracted to his wit and integrity. In later years he returned to another love of his life, horses. He and Elaine had many good rides out in the desert near their home. His memory will continue to light up the lives of those who will always remember him.
He left behind his wife of 26 years, Elaine, and five children: Debra Boone and family of Clifton, Colorado, Sharon Schwarzin and family of Walla Walla, Washington, Valerie Terry of Walla Walla, Washington, Brian DeLay and family of Fallon, Nevada, and Josh DeLay and family of Fallon, Nevada. A son, Aaron, preceded him in death in 1999. Also missing him in their lives are nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He left behind other relatives and friends and his legacy will continue to guide and influence all their lives.
“A light from our household is gone; a voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our hearts that never can be filled.”
Arrangements are under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home, 2949 Austin Highway, Fallon, NV 89406 (775) 423-8928.
