Schools need more volunteers

I just read the article in Sunday’s paper about more money needed for the schools. Having volunteered for two years and tutored reading for six years at Empire Elementary School, I think I know how to solve the problem. First, the teachers are the greatest and most dedicated there is. Second, since Carson is full of seniors, the schools could use more volunteers. Money is not the answer. President Obama proved that. Our schools are full of non-English speaking kids. There is only one way to grade the schools properly, move all of the non-English speaking kids into one school. Fill that school with as many Spanish speaking teachers as possible. Then watch the English speaking schools excel.

Dead beat Congress should fund veterans care

Congress is a dead beat of the worst kind. Congress says that it costs too much to live up to the promises made to the men and women who fight for us. We spend trillions of dollars messing around in the Middle East and balk at a few billion to heal our wounded warriors. Shouldn’t we stop the politics and live up to our promises to those we send out to be wounded or killed? The VA has been a mess for too many years, ignoring Agent Orange and PTSD and forcing veterans to wait far too long to be healed.
