Carson City and Virginia City Railfest steam up and dinner

Carson City and Virginia City Railfest opens 10 a.m., today at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. No. 8 locomotive will “steam up” around the museum tracks. Rids are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors 65 and older and $3 for children 6-11. The museum will host “Eastern Fare Meets Western Trains,” a dinner and lecture, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Bamboo Gardens will serve appetizers and entrees in the museum, followed by a slideshow presentation of the Chinese contribution to the V&T. After dinner, guests can ride the train around the museum tracks. Tickets are $25 per person. For information, call 687-6953

Carson AT&T Pioneers meeting is Tuesday afternoon

The Carson AT&T Pioneers volunteer organization will meet 5:30 p.m., Tuesday at Tito’s Mexican Restaurant, 444 E. William St. The dinner meeting lasts from 5:30-7 p.m. and includes a raffle. Cost is $16. For information and to RSVP, call 882-5205

The Carson City Symphony will begin rehearsals for the 2007-08 season 7:15-9:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Carson High School band room. The season includes five concerts in Carson City and one in Fallon, all featuring guest soloists or groups. Musicians who are interested in joining should contact the Symphony at 775-883-4154.

Nevada Cattlemen’s Association seeks ‘Teacher of the Year’

The Nevada Cattlemen’s Association is seeking nominations from school principals and teachers for “Teacher of the year.” The deadline for submitting nominations is Oct. 1. The nominations must be an elementary, junior high, or high school teacher who incorporates agriculture into their regular curriculum. The winner of this award will receive $1,000 to use on school supplies. Nominations should be mailed the NCA Research and Education Committee, P.O. Box 310, Elko. NV, 89803.
