Senator Square: Craft fair promises to be best yet

Carson High School's 20th annual Holiday Craft Fair is 5-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. It will be the best one yet with lots of new vendors as well as all your favorites. Come spend some time — great food, entertainment, a raffle, Santa, book sale, and of course, amazing and unique gifts for everyone.

Admission for adults on Friday evening is only $2 and includes a raffle ticket as well as re-entry on Saturday.

Saturday's admission price is $1.50 or only $1 with a canned food donated for FISH.

As always, children and K-12 students are free. All proceeds go to benefit CHS student groups — last year's craft fair provided stipends for more than 20 clubs as well as 10 senior scholarships of $500 each.

Support your school and community by attending this year's craft fair.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

This week's senior spotlight features Margaret Duvall. Margaret has taken a rigorous class load since freshman year and holds a 4.45 grade-point average.

This year she's taking a full load of mostly advanced-placement classes, above and beyond what she needs to graduate.

Margaret has achieved more than just academically during high school. She has served as her class representative the past two years, and is currently senior class treasurer. She acted as chair of the Homecoming dance and was instrumental in raising funds so the Homecoming tradition could continue.

Margaret has been a member of National Honor Society the past three years and has been active in FBLA for four years, serving as president and vice president.

She has won numerous awards as a member of FBLA and has competed at the state and national levels. Outside of school, Margaret works as a math tutor and tutors English as a second language at the Carson City Community Center.

She's a youth leader at her church and has earned the bronze and silver awards in Girl Scouts.

Her family is hosting an international exchange student from Vietnam.

Margaret plans to attend UNR next year. She wants to major in finance or economics and work as a financial adviser or for the U.S. Department of Treasury.

Her dream is to spend a year studying in Japan and eventually get a JD MBA from Harvard.

CHS is extremely proud of the contributions Margaret has made to our school and our community and we wish her the best of luck.

Angila Golik is a government teacher at Carson High School and a member of Senator Pride.
