Tons of pot seized in raid on remote Nevada site

PAHRUMP — Nye County sheriff's officials say investigators removed almost 2 tons of dried and bundled marijuana plants from a remote Nevada mountain area where an extensive grow operation was found.

Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Puckett tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that a deputy and a U.S. Forest Service agent acting on a tip used a Drug Enforcement Agency aircraft to spot the pot farm about 160 miles north of Las Vegas.

Investigators say the farm had irrigation lines, drying and processing huts and a kitchen cooking area.

They cut down more than 8,500 plants, and Las Vegas police airlifted about 30 bundles from the Quinn Canyon area east of Railroad Valley. Each bundle weighed 60 to 100 pounds.

Officials put the potential street value in the tens of millions of dollars.
