The Fallon football team rolled to another impressive victory Friday at the Edward Arciniega Complex.
The Greenwave drummed rival Fernley, 49-6, on Homecoming night to improve to 7-0 in the Northern Division I-A. The Vaqueros fall to 5-2 and sits in fourth place after wins by Elko (6-1) and Lowry (6-1 Northern DI-A, 7-1 overall).
Fernley, playing without starting quarterback Skylar Williams, struck first when backup QB Kevin Montgomery hit Anfernee Sloan for a 33-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Montgomery was stuffed on the 2-point conversion.
Fallon, though, rebound and struck pay dirt when quarterback Morgan Dirickson hit Cameron Matzen for a 21-yard TD pass. The Wave took a 14-7 lead on a 1-yard run by Trent Tarner with 8:37 left in the second quarter.
Matzen, though, turned the tide for good with a 67-yard punt return for a TD with 6:29 left.
Dirickson, meanwhile, tossed three TD passes in the third quarter, and backup quarterback Joe Pyle rumbled in from 10 yards for the final score in the fourth fourth quarter.
Dirickson completed 12 of 18 passes for 266 yards and four touchdowns. Tyler Bagby had four catches for 101 yards and a TD, while Matzen added two receptions for 100 yards including a 64-yard TD catch. Tarner added 49 yards rushing.
Montgomery connected on 7 of 14 passes for 99 yards and a TD. Erik Wilson led the Vaqueros with 44 yards rushing, while Tyler Mathena had a team-high three catches for 45 yards.
Fallon visits Truckee at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 26, while Fernley hosts Lowry at 7 p.m. Thursday.
