Peacock signs pact with indoor grid team

Former Carson High and Hiram College football standout Josh Peacock signed a contract earlier this week to play for the Cleveland Patriots of the American Indoor Football .

Peacock, after playing in an all-star game in Alabama, was drafted in the third round by the Patriots, a new AIFL team.

“I’m very excited to be a part of this program and playing football at the professional level,” Peacock said. “It has been one of my dreams.”

Peacock said that each team can dress 20 players for a game. There are five players who are back-ups in case of injury. Each team has 30 players on its roster, 10 of which aren’t paid.

Peacock also is playing for an outdoor semipro squad, the Cleveland Saints.

“I’m not getting paid for this league, but I’m doing it to play with former Hiram teammates and best friend Richard Simpson, who is a great wideout,” Peacock said. “I also want to get better in football in general.”

If you followed athletics at Carson High in the past five years, you knew Carley Allison.

Allison was a student manager of football, basketball and baseball teams as well as being a student trainer.

Allison has maintained her enthusiasm for sports. Now a junior at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif., Allison is pursuing a dual major in sports management and business management.

According to her mom, Rhonda, Carley is getting plenty of hands-on experience working for the SMC athletic department.

There is no doubt in my mind that SMC is lucky to have her around.

The 27th annual Boosters Club Golf Tournament benefitting the Whittell and South Tahoe athletic departments, is scheduled for May 3-4 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

The cost is $125, which includes golf, cart and lunch.

The top three teams get prizes, and there are also raffle tickets on sale on the day of the tournament.

If you are interested in playing both days, the cost is $225.

How is everybody’s bracket doing?

That question seems to pop up everywhere I go. I went 11-5 on Thursday.

The only good thing is that I still have my entire Final Four left — Michigan State, Louisville, Florida and Creighton — alive. I picked Florida to knock off Louisville in the finals.
