Community sports: Fore The Kids tournament is May 13

The annual Fore The Kids charity golf tournament is slated for May 13 at Genoa Lakes' Ranch course.

Proceeds benefit programs that 900-plus youth and their families need and access each year. The program has funded more than $100,000 in annual passes for kids at the Douglas County Community Center and Kahle Community Center.

Money also is used to support the Douglas County Sheriff Explorer's youth programs and the Carson Valley Medical Center.

Core Construction is the presenting sponsor, and Starbucks, Western Nevada Supply, Pro Group Management, Michael Hohl Automotive and Continuum Packing Solutions are title sponsors.

The format is a four-man scramble. The cost is $125 which includes breakfast, lunch, golf and cart. For information, email ReneaLouie@gmail.com or call 790-1544.

Goodnight, Ramiro win at Toiyabe

Larry Goodnight and Emmanuel Ramiro combined for a 61 to win the Toiyabe Men's Club four-ball event on April 19.

Steve McKnight and Fran Menante were second with a 64, and third was a tie between Curtis Thompson and Ken Smitreski, and Larry Greenman and Jack Bonar with 65s. Mike Schellin and Riley Beckett were fifth with a 66.

Vern Hamilton won closest to the hole on No. 8.

On the women's side, Lynn Greenman, Gayle Block, Claudia Goodnight and Shirley Westfall combined for a 124 to win the 4-person shamble tournament at Toiyabe.

Carol Colwell, Trica Rebuck, Janice Campbell and Jean Driver were second with a 151.

Boykin wins EV women's event

Kim Boykin won first flight for the Eagle Valley women's group on April 19.

Georgia Silva won first flight low net. In Flight 2, Sandy Lawrence had the best gross score and Donna McKimmey's net score was a winner. The Flight 3 gross winner was Marie Werner with Bonnie MacQuarrie having the best net score.

Mick quartet wins Empire golf event

Gary Mick, Jim Shabi, John Tierney and Donnie Swanson combined for a net 44 to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Tournament at Empire Ranch.

The tourney was contested using the 18 holes in the best condition at the course.

Mel Ness, Rich Torak, Fred Coons and Augie Martinez were second in Flight A with a 47. Bill Gibson, Dave Serviss and Tom Wickham won Flight B in a tiebreaker over Nick Paul, Jim Green, John Masiello and John Lewis. Both teams shot 46s.

Al Gianotti, Greg Bentley, Dennis Curd and Don Wilson shot 44 to win Flight C, two strokes ahead of John Sullivan, George Allison, Norm Scoggin and Myron Carpenter.

Spencer, Camp tie at Silver Oak

Charles Spencer and Wes Camp tied for the A Flight title, shooting 65s at the recent Carson City Men's Club event at Silver Oak.

Kevin Johnson tied for third with a 69. Gary Yoakum won Flight B with a 57, nine shots ahead of Manny Lopez and 14 ahead of Eric Fujita.

Tuesday women's clinic at CVGC

Women playing in the Carson Valley Golf Club women's group can take part in a short 45-minute clinic prior to teeing off on Tuesdays. The 20-minute clinic starts at 8:45 a.m., and costs $5.
