Marsan impresses at California meet

Facing some of the top competition in Northern California, the Fallon boys track team held its own at the Glen Poole Invitational on Saturday in Roseville, Calif.

The Greenwave placed sixth with 34 points. Woodcreek (Calif.) won the title with 97 points followed by Whitney (88), El Camino (47), St. Mary’s (46), and former Nevada 4A foe Douglas placed fifth (43.5).

The Lady Wave placed 14th with eight points, while Douglas captured the title with 76.33 and Carson was third with 58.

In the frosh/soph meet, the Fallon boys took seventh with 32 points, while Carson won the meet with 100. Douglas placed eighth with 15 points.

On the track, Nick Marsan put his skills in the hurdles on display as the Fallon senior placed third in the 300 (41.58) and 110 (16.04). Marsan was less than half a second behind winner Roshaan Rogers of Woodcreek in the 300, as the California hurdler won with a mark of 41.09.

In the 110, Marsan again fell to Rogers, who tied Wesley Thompson of St. Mary’s (Calif.) with a time of 15.63.

Fellow hurdles Nathan Heck placed eighth in the 300 (43.72) and 12th in the 110 (18.19).

Tanner Boone ran strong in the 3,200 as he nabbed sixth with a time of 10 minutes, 16.58 seconds. Nathan Schank placed seventh in the 800 (2:05.49).

In the field events, Justin Hatfield cracked the top eight in the shot put. The Fallon sophomore took sixth with a toss of 44 feet, 2 inches.

Heck, meanwhile, showed his skills in the pole vault as the sophomore took second with a height of 12-2. Jordan Schultz took ninth with a mark of 10-2.

Beau Marshall led the jumpers with a third-place finish in the triple jump (40-6.75).

The Lady Wave, meanwhile, were lifted by junior pole vaulter Maddie Alegre, who placed third with a height of 9-2. Emily Coleman took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 31-9.
