CARSON CITY — Swimming hard and with purpose, the Lady Wave nabbed third place Saturday at the Northern Division I-A regional meet.
Fallon tallied 257 points behind regional champ Truckee (361) and runner-up South Tahoe (304). The Fallon boys, meanwhile, placed sixth with 146 points as Truckee ran away with the regional crown with 371.5 followed by Sage Ridge (212).
Sam Martin led the Lady Wave as she won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 20.55 seconds. She also placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:04.73).
Alex Lynch blew past the field to capture the 100 free title (59.52) and placed fourth in the 200 free (2:12.32). Lyndsey Thurston also netted a pair of state cuts as she was third in the 100 free (1:03.47) and fourth in the 50 free (28.18).
Tina Anderson and Katrina Ward, however, just missed qualifying for state in their individual events. Anderson was fifth in the 50 free (28.74) and fifth in 100 breaststroke (1:21.73) — less than 1 second from fourth.
Ward took fifth in the 200 free (2:25.35) and 100 fly (1:14.04), which she was about 5 seconds from fourth.
Anderson, though, will join her teammates at the state meet as part of the 200 free and medley relay teams. The four seniors won a nail-biter over Truckee as Fallon won by .09 seconds. The foursome also took third in the medley relay, but the 400 free team of Sierra Bivens, Addyson Harmon, Josey Moore and Lea Brown placed sixth.
For the boys, Keith Grimes crushed the field in the 50 free (23.31) and posted the third fastest time of the day. He was also second in 100 free (51.58).
Joining him will be his younger brother, Kyle Grimes, who qualified in the 100 backstroke (1:04.89). Kyle Grimes missed out in the 200 IM by about 7 seconds.
The boys’ relay teams also failed to qualify as the 200 medley and 400 free teams placed sixth, and the 200 free relay team was fifth.
