STATE SOFTBALL: Lady Wave roars past Faith Lutheran; Fernley wins

The Fallon softball team won its Division I-A state tournament opener, 10-3, over Faith Lutheran on Thursday in Las Vegas.

The Lady Wave struck first with two runs in the third, but Faith Lutheran countered with one run in the fourth.

Fallon, though, pushed across four runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Faith Lutheran cut the lead to 6-3 in the sixth, but Fallon answered with four in the bottom half of the inning.

The Lady Wave will play rival Fernley, who beat Chaparral, 10-0. First pitch for Friday’s Fallon-Fernley game is at 9 a.m. and the winner advances to Saturday’s state championship game. Faith Lutheran and Chaparral hit the field at 11:15 a.m.
