The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association canceled four varsity high school football games this weekend due to smoke from the Rim Fire in California.
Donnie Nelson, assistant director of the NIAA, announced the cancelations, although nine other games have been relocated to other sites.
Reno and Douglas play at 5:30 p.m. today at Lowry High School in Winnemucca, while Dayton and Pershing County battle at 7 p.m. in Lovelock.
Today’s games moved to other locations include McQueen at Nevada Union in Grass Valley, Calif., at 7 p.m.; Mineral County at Lone Pine, Calif., at 7 p.m.; Reed at Foothill in Palo Cedro, Calif., at 7 p.m.; and Galena at Lassen in Susanville, Calif., at 7:30 p.m.
Games moved to Saturday include Carson against Hug at 1 p.m. at Pershing County High School in Lovelock; Damonte Ranch against North Valleys at 1 p.m. at Lowry; and Virginia City at Eureka at 1 p.m.
The following games are canceled: Silver Stage against Whittell, Spanish Springs against Bishop Manouge, Sparks against Yerington and Wooster at Rite of Passage.
