Fallon allowed to play, 5 counties still banned from outdoor activities

Good news finally came for Fallon sports.

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association ruled earlier Wednesday the boys and girls soccer match against Incline will be played at the Edward Arciniega Complex.

Smoke from the Rim Fire in Yosemite National Park has caused numerous cancellations and forced many western Nevada teams to practice indoors the past two weeks.

Despite the good news, schools in Douglas, Carson, Storey, Washoe and Mono (Calif.) counties will not be allowed to compete or practice outside on Wednesday.

Lyon, Churchill and El Dorado, Placer and Nevada (all in Calif.) counties are in the acceptable air-quality index range to compete and practice.

A determination to allow for practice and competition outdoors tomorrow will be made by the NIAA at 1 p.m. Thursday.
