Visiting Bishop Manogue rolled to a 13-5 season-opening win over Carson on Thursday afternoon at CHS.
Three of the victories went to Katy Breeding, who won 3-2 (injury retirement) and 6-3 over Manogue’s No. 2 player. Preeta Amin won 6-2 in a third-round singles match.
Tess Corda and Emma Breeding won 6-4, while Greta Sturm and Amanda Breen were 6-2 winners.
Carson visits Galena on Tuesday afternoon.
Manogue tops CHS
RENO — Carson High managed to win just 23 games in dropping a 16-2 decision to Bishop Manogue on Thursday afternoon.
The only sets won by Carson were in doubles. Trevor Sollberger and Jace Zampirro grabbed a 6-4 win in the final round of doubles, while Kyle Kunz and Sam Burketta were 6-0 winners in a second-round doubles match.
Manogue’s Collin Bernard and Christian Webber won all three of their matches by 6-0 scores. Carson hosts Galena on Tuesday.
Fallon tops Douglas
MINDEN — Fallon scored eight points in the doubles matches and Josh Inglis came from behind to post a pivotal singles win Thursday afternoon to knock off Douglas 10-8 in the season-opening match.
Douglas got three wins from Jon Pelcher, who celebrated his 16th birthday and his first time in the No. 1 singles position. The junior didn’t lose a single game along the way.
Carson 20, Reno 8
RENO — Jace Keema threw for a score, and Sevon Mandoki and Justin Tschetter scored a rushing touchdown apiece to lead Carson to an easy win over Reno on Thursday afternoon at Foster Field in the season opener for both schools.
Carson took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on Mandoki’s 10-yard run and the PAT by Jonathan Barahona. The Senators extended the lead to 13-0 at the half when Keema threw a 60-yard pass to Jesse Lopez. After a scoreless third quarter, Tschetter scored on a 60-yard run. Barahona added the PAT.
Reno scored all of its points in the fourth quarter, all in the final minute of the game.
Nick Andreas, Jordan Aikins, Tschetter, Bryce Schilling, Spencer Rogers and Tyler Francone were singled out by coach Billy McHenry for their solid defensive play.
