Dayton makes it two straight at Lowry

WINNEMUCCA — Dayton High's volleyball team defended its championship at the Lowry Invitational with a 25-18, 25-15 and 25-16 win over Elko on Saturday.
The Dust Devils went 8-0 in the tournament, and have won the title three different times.
"Everybody contributed," DHS coach Monica Halverson. "It was a full team participation.. The girls really stepped it up this weekend. The chemistry on the court was amazing."
Dayton started Saturday with a 25-11 and 25-12 win over Whittell, beat Elko 25-22 and 25-14, and edged Battle Mountain 25-11 and 25-12. On Friday, Dayton went 4-0 with two-set wins over Battle Mountain (25-20, 25-16), Fernley (25-10, 25-17), Lowry (25-22, 25-14) and Middleton of Idaho (25-18, 25-16).
Dayton plays in the Yerington Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
CARSON WINLESS ON SATURDAY
LAS VEGAS — After going 3-0 on Friday, Carson's volleyball squad went 0-3 on Saturday.
Carson lost to Green Valley-Henderson, 25-8 and 25-22, lost to Palo Verde, 25-15 and 25-22, and Las Vegas in three 18-25, 25-21 and 11-15.
Sophomore Julianna Anderson had 21 kills and 15 digs for the Senators, Yana Spence had 14 kills and 11 digs, and Gaby Palazzollo added 19 kills for the tournament. Freshman Jaycie Roberts had 48 digs and Danielle Good contributed 69 assists, 10 digs and 12 kills in the two-day event.
Carson plays in Carmichael next weekend.
"It was a good tournament," coach Robert Maw said. "I think that first-set loss to Green Valley carried over the rest of the day. We fought hard in that second game. Palo Verde had some tall girls that were able to pound the ball on us. I thought we should have won that match against Las Vegas."
