LAS VEGAS — Koko Terada said her goal was to play for the gold this week at the NIAA Division I State Girls Golf Championship.
And the Douglas High School junior took a good step toward that goal on Wednesday when she shot even-par 72 at the Bear's Best Golf Club. She stands in second-place, only two shots behind Spanish Springs' Katrina Prendergast. The final round will be played today at Bear's Best.
Terada made the turn at 37 and then shot a 1-under 35 on the back nine to complete a solid round over the 5,532-yard layout.
Terada placed third at last year's state tournament. Last week, she finished nine shots behind Prendergrast, who won her third straight Northern Region individual title at Rosewood Lakes Golf Course.
Spanish Springs took the lead in the team standings with its 320, followed by Coronado's 335 and Bishop Gorman's 339. Spanish Springs is the defending state team champion.
