LEAD On awards 2 scholarships

Staff Report

LEAD On, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of Churchill County youth, has awarded two scholarships to graduating seniors Emily Richard and Kate Dunkin.

“Our team wants Churchill County youth to know and believe they can do and become anything,” said board member and scholarship chairman Paolo Narag. “We are thrilled to offer two scholarships to students with experience and values of leadership, service and education.”

Richards was selected for the LEAD On scholarship. She served as Oasis Academy’s student body president and girls varsity lacrosse defensive captain. With the goal of being a sports broadcaster, Richards plans to study journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, in the fall.

“I would like to thank my parents and family for loving and supporting me through this journey,” Richards said. “I would also like to thank the Oasis Academy and Western Nevada College staff for helping me be the best I can be.”

Dunkin was selected for the LEAD Forward scholarship. She attended Oasis Academy and was a leader in student council and We the People. Dunkin was recruited to play lacrosse at New England College in New Hampshire where she plans to study journalism.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout the years,” she said. “Especially my loving family, dedicated teachers, and committed coaches for always supporting me and pushing me to succeed.”

“Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to LEAD On’s programs this year” said LEAD On President Monica Davis. “Together, we are empowering Churchill County youth to achieve their dreams.”
