Seventeen days of music and art are in store for the capital city when the 13th Annual Jazz & Beyond Carson City Music Festival kicks off on Aug. 5.

The annual festival, presented by Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City, presents live music at multiple venues through Aug. 21 at locations around the city.

“Jazz & Beyond is a homegrown event celebrating the talent of our region and relying on many local music fans who donate their time and effort,” said committee cochair David Bugli, president of the Mile High Jazz Band Association. “Volunteers, sponsors, and advertisers help us make the event one of the best in the area, and keep most performances admission free.”

Festival organizers are seeking additional business and private sponsors and program advertisers. For information about rates for sponsorship and program ads, call the Mile High Jazz Band at 775-883-4154.

The festival opens on Friday, Aug. 5, at the historic Bliss Mansion at the corner of Mountain and Robinson streets. An art show and sale featuring artists from the Capital City Arts Initiative and Nevada Artists Association is planned at 4 p.m. on the mansion’s porch. Music by the Triple Treble flute trio begins at 4:30 p.m. Miss Dixie, the Vintage Art Bus from Fallon, will be there, too. A performance by Cherie and John Shipley with Take This band will follow on the lawn at 6:30 p.m.

The festival continues on Sunday, Aug. 7, with a day at the Silver Saddle Ranch, 2648 Carson River Road on the east side of Prison Hill. Join the Wild Ass Women and their burros in enjoying performances by CW & Dr. Spitmore, Hick’ry Switch, Alex Muddy Smith, and the Sagebrush Rebels. The events begin at 3 p.m.

Two Sunday evening concerts on the grounds of the Legislature are planned on Aug. 14 and Aug. 21. Bands include the Champagne Singers, Urban Renewal Project from Los Angels, Niall McGuinness and the New World Jazz Project, and the Reno Jazz Orchestra with guest singer Trey Stone.

Free concerts also will be held at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson Mall, Comma Coffee Courtyard, the new Bob McFadden Plaza on Third Street, Brewery Arts Center, and other Carson City venues. Special events include a History of Jazz art show, lecture, and concert, and a Speakeasy Dance Party with the Brass Knuckles band.

A full schedule of events will be available soon at JazzCarsonCity.com.
