Get ready to dive into a movie. Literally.

For one night this summer the Carson City Aquatic Facility will turn into the city’s first poolside cinema.

On July 7, Disney’s “Moana” will be shown on the center’s new LED scoreboard that hangs above the indoor pool.

Patrons will be welcome to swim while they watch and staff is considering waiving the pool rule against floatation devices for the evening.

The adjoining outdoor picnic area may host drinks and food but, as usual, no refreshments inside the pool.

“We don’t want popcorn everywhere,” said Mike Freeman, aquatic program manager.

Dive-In Movie is a new program from Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department that, depending on popularity, could expand to Halloween/Nevada Day and Christmas showings, too.

“We’re super excited about it and want everyone to have a good time,” said Freeman. “And we want to do it correctly and safely.”

Ever since getting the new scoreboard, donated last fall by the Carson Tigersharks swim team, pool staff have been looking for ways to take advantage of it.

“We’re trying to increase use of it,” said Freeman. “It’s a nice piece of equipment.”

Other ideas include a running slideshow of the summer program schedule and exercise videos for the pool’s aquatic fitness class.

Parks and Rec also will be hosting a movie in Mills Park on Aug. 11, said Dan Earp, recreation superintendent.

People are invited to bring blankets and chairs to the free event and a food truck may be on hand.

“Sing,” a 3D, computer-animated musical comedy, will be shown on a 16-foot inflatable screen borrowed from Washoe County for the occasion.

As with Dive-In Movie, Movie in the Park may expand if it proves popular.

Dive-In showing of “Moana” is July 7, 7:45 p.m. at the Carson Aquatic Facility.

Tickets are $5 and free for children under 3 years old. Children 12 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Movie in the Park is on Aug. 11 at 8 p.m. The event is free.
