Silver City Arts Group hosting fine arts reception Saturday
Silver City Arts Group is hosting a fine arts exhibit with an unusual twist. Instead of displaying work by a single artist, the group is putting on an eclectic display of artwork from private collections of Silver City residents.
The exhibit’s organizers say the display is a tribute to the love of art that thrives in the small Comstock community.
A range of work from around the world will be displayed, including pieces by Francisco de Goya, Walter McNamara, Ray Obermayr, Dick Peitz, Gus Bundy and Lucy Nieder.
Each of the pieces selected for the show, prepared and designed by visiting artist Brian Schorn, have a backstory. An original watercolor will be displayed by Estelle Peck Ishigo, famous for documenting her experiences in a Japanese relocation camp in the U.S. during World War II.
The opening reception, which will offer hors d’oeuvres and live music, will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Silver City School House, 385 High St.
