The Carson City Board of Supervisors today approved a $2 million sales tax rebate for the owner of the vacant Wal-Mart building in South Carson City.
The city will refund the money annually over the next 15 years to Robert Rothe, owner of City Management Services, which manages the building.
In August, the city approved $2 million in redevelopment funds to help bring in Burlington Coat Factory.
The rebate measure passed on a 3-1 vote with Mayor Marv Teixeira casting the lone opposition vote and Supervisor Shelly Aldean abstaining.
The tax rebate is being used to draw a Sportsman’s Warehouse to the site. Rothe said today the sporting goods store should open by August.
