Debbie Early of the Gardnerville Ranchos is a blackjack dealer by night, sign maker by day.

In 1996 she suffered a heart attack and the weather was too bad for CareFlight. The ambulance had a hard time finding her house. Early said she decided then something needed to be done.

Two months ago, Early discovered Address America and through the company began making reflective street signs.

"They are decorative and attractive and can be seen easily at night," Early said.

"Address America is located in the South and taught me how to assemble the signs by video and telephone," Early said.

"I had a couple of problems at first, but once I got the hang of it it was easy," Early said. "Signs take about 15 minutes to assemble once I have the supplies."

Signs come in six different designs for mailboxes, houses, gardens and driveways and come with gold or white lettering and numbers.

Prices range from $29 to $79, depending on if it's one-sided or two, and installation is free.

"For $20 extra I can add a nameplate," Early said.

"I think it's a community service type thing; if there's an emergency you could be found," Early said.

Early has made about 35 signs and displays can be seen around town on Riverview Drive and Mottsville Lane.
