The Miser...

At the close of every weary day,

The miser kneels him down to pray

And with his visage sallow,

Blows out the candle on his right,

Says, "God can hear without the light

And I can save the tallow."

Yesterday another victim of smallpox was reported. The unfortunate is a brother of the young man now confined in the pest house. There is no danger of spreading as the second case occurred at the pest house, where the patient was taking care of his brother.

Notary says Professor Little who has devoted his spare time to the finest flower garden of this city is justly indignant over the wanton action of someone who robbed his garden. Plants that would have provided seeds for another season were destroyed.

Home of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Russell was the scene of a lovely summer wedding of Betty Wolverton and Wayne Schumacher. She is the owner of Betty's Beauty Saloon. He is active with Carson 20-30 Club.

Firefighters continue to battle a major blaze threatening homes in the Lakeview area of northern Carson City. At press time, the fire spread to Vicee and Combs Canyon. Eagle Valley Children's Home was evacuated.

Carson City officials will be forced Thursday to decide how to spend an estimated $163,000 from a priority list of $1.2 million. Topping was an enhanced 911 system.
