Ice cream will be the treat du jour at the sixth anual Corpus Christi Church St. Benedict Society Ice Cream Social Sunday.

Bob Brummer, head of the society, said the social is the society's only fund-raiser during the year.

"We are basically a service organization," he said. "We work and pray on behalf of the local community. The ice cream social is one of the works we do."

Among other things members of the St. Benedict Society do is to distribute Christmas baskets to needy families and do clean-ups.

"We distribute 50 baskets to needy families each year," he said. "We do retreats and prayer services on behalf of those in need of prayer."

Brummer said the highlight of the social is the 50-50 drawing. Last year's winner took home $1,900. The other half of the money raised through the sale of tickets goes to a scholarship fund.

"It just gets better every year," he said. "It is a good time and we invite the whole community to come by."
