Outdoors: Happenings in hunting world

Here's what's happening in the Nevada hunting world in the near future:

-- Aug. 24 - Closing day of the "any legal weapon" pronghorn antelope hunting season for management area No. 033-Early.

-- Aug. 24 - Deadline for receiving applications for the special sage grouse hunts on the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge. Call the Nevada Division of Wildlife headquarters in Reno at 688-1500 during regular business hours.

-- Aug. 25 - Opening day of the "any legal weapon" pronghorn antelope hunting season for most of the open areas. This season will close on Sept. 3.

-- Aug. 25 - Opening day of the "any legal weapon" Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep hunting season for management area No. 101. This season will close on Oct. 28.

-- Aug. 25 - Opening day of the "any legal weapon" Rocky Mountain goat hunting season for management area Nos. 101-103. This season will close on Oct. 28.

-- Aug. 25-26 - "Snake Break" training for your dog. Offered by the Northern Nevada Chapter of Quail Unlimited. Call Pat Shanley at 883-6435 (evenings).
