120 YEARS AGO

Editor of the Enterprise has started a subscription for a monument to Kit Carson, with $10. Kit Carson's grave is at present in Taos, N.M., and in case Nevada erected a monument to his memory the capital of this state would be the proper place for it. The man's memory is deserving of some public recognition.

100 YEARS AGO

Couple of enthusiastic Carson prospectors located a copper mine in the middle of the night. They discovered the next morning that the location was in a farmer's cow yard. They have not received the returns of the assay yet.

70 YEARS AGO

Notary column says the most popular place in this city for visiting by the stranger is the state penitentiary. While the visitor is shown the mammoth foot marks, the sloth and the army of bird tracks, it is the prison, its inmates and the death cell that claim the major attention.

50 YEARS AGO

Nevada Tax Commission for the first time in a number of years, invited the press to their meeting in which gambling and other matters were discussed, and application for games in the Last Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas (approved).

20 YEARS AGO

The 6,900 acres Little Valley Forest Fire was declared under control with 100 fire fighters mopping up. State's share of the $156,000 estimated repair bill for the fire damaged Marlette-Hobart water system will be only $10,000 due to insurance coverage including a new water tank.

10 YEARS AGO

More than 150 people showed up at Sen. Harry Reid's town hall meeting and largely the senior citizen crowd wanted to talk about money.
