Two Carson City men were arrested Sunday when an apparent purse snatching was foiled by a bystander.

Timothy R. Lay, 22, and Kenneth A. Dotsun, 21, allegedly snatched a purse at 4:20 p.m. at Smith's Grocery. Their captor chased Dotsun down, detained him near the Carson Library, but was sprayed in the face with pepper spray by Lay, according to court documents.

The men then ran away, but were caught near the intersection of Washington and Walsh streets by officers responding to a 911 call.

Both men were charged with larceny from a person over 65 and Lay was charged additionally with battery with a deadly weapon. Dotson was ordered held on $25,000 bail and Lay was held on $30,000 bail.
