The Carson City Sheriff's Department will be "Joining Forces" with other law enforcement agencies around the country this holiday weekend to crack down on drunk drivers and others violating traffic laws. In addition, they will be on the lookout to encourage seatbelt use of all drivers and passengers.

"Joining Forces" is a statewide enforcement and education campaign designed to increase seatbelt use, stop drunk drivers, increase compliance with traffic laws and reduce the rate of crashed per mile driven. Joining Forces is a program of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety and the Carson City Sheriff's Department.

Airport Road and Sherman Lane, and William and Roop streets will be targeted for additional patrols today from 7-11 p.m.

Special reminder - failure to restrain children under the age of five and under 40 pounds is a primary violation and the driver will be stopped.

For information, call Sgt. Wade Penegor at 887-2020, ext. 3149.
