The Gold Runners ran into a buzz saw during the first half against a tough Green Geckos team, but went on to win 4-1 in American Youth Soccer Division V boys action.
The Geckos found the back of the net in the first quarter with Kyle Stone scoring on a strong kick from the right side of the field. But the Gold Runners fought back in the second half.
Down 1-0 in the third quarter, Blake Moreland fed Andrew Ortiz with the first score of the game for the Gold Runners. John Nuthall quickly followed with a breakaway goal off Moreland's second assist of the contest.
With a 2-1 lead at the end of the third quarter, the Gold Runners turned up the heat on both offense and defense. Matt Nuthall, Tyler McCarty and Darren Guzzetta led a charging defense that held the Geckos scoreless in the second half. Moreland added an insurance goal midway through the fourth quarter and Timmy Karpe finished the scoring for the Gold Runners off a rebounded shot on goal.
